The principle of BOD analyzer

BOD tester, namely biological oxygen demand tester, is an instrument used to analyze the biological oxygen demand in water bodies. Biological oxygen demand (BOD) is the amount of oxygen consumed by microorganisms growing in a certain amount of water. It is an environmental monitoring indicator, which is mainly used to monitor the pollution of organic substances in water.

Principle of laboratory BOD meter:

The water sample containing saturated dissolved oxygen enters the measuring tank and contacts the biosensor. When there is no biodegradable organic matter in the water sample, a constant current is generated when the diffusion speed (mass) of dissolved oxygen to the oxygen electrode is constant. When there are biodegradable organics in the water sample, the organics will be assimilated by the microorganisms in the biofilm, and the cell respiration of the microorganisms will also be enhanced, consuming part of the dissolved oxygen, reducing the dissolved oxygen diffused to the surface of the oxygen electrode. When the diffusion speed (mass) of dissolved oxygen in the water sample to the electrode again reaches a constant, a constant current will be generated. Because there is a quantitative relationship between the difference of the two constant currents and the concentration of biodegradable organic substances in the water sample, the current signal is amplified and analyzed by a microcomputer, and the BOD detection result is directly displayed.

BOD analyzer is widely used in routine and emergency measurement of water environment, measurement of dissolved oxygen in sewage treatment, teaching and research in universities and scientific research institutions, water quality measurement in aquariums and aquaculture, ecological environment investigation and measurement of dissolved oxygen in other fields.
